May Film Night: "Her" (2013)

Wednesday, May 2nd │ 7:00-9:00 pm
Members: Complimentary │Non-Members: Standard Guest Fee

Directed by Spike Jones (Where the Wild Things Are, The Three Kings, Being John Malkovich), Her tells the story of Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix), a vulnerable man in the process of finalizing his divorce. His passion is playing video games and occasionally hanging out with friends. He then purchases the new OS1, the world's first artificially intelligent operating system, advertised as having consciousness. Theodore becomes attracted to Samantha (voice of Scarlett Johansson), the voice behind his OS1. In time they grow closer and closer and—of course they would—find themselves in love, a situation that is as joyful as it is scary. With her computerized intelligence, Samantha can help Theodore, but can she mitigate his confusion about being in love with a computer? You’ll have to come to film night to find out. BTW, if you use an iPhone, we recommend that you not get too intimate with Siri. Only ask for directions to restaurants, not to your soul!

Enjoy complimentary appetizers and wine during the film, as well as post-film discussion with film buff, Jim Clauss.
