Ages 12+

Craig Hanaumi will be joining us to teach a complimentary self-defense class. Craig has 14 years of law enforcement experience and his work in the city of Bellevue has been featured on Good Morning America, Fox News, Komo, Kiro, King5 and the Seattle Times. He has been teaching defensive tactics to his coworkers since 2008 and has partnered with several local organizations to teach self defense classes, including the Bellevue Boys and Girls Club, Salvation Army, and at Lifewire domestic violence shelters. Craig is a Jiu Jitsu purple belt under Ryron and Rener Gracie, and is passionate about educating us in self-defense!

Self-defense is a set of awareness, assertiveness, and verbal confrontation skills combined with safety strategies and physical techniques that enables us to be better prepared. Craig will help us identify risks, evaluate our strengths, and explore our options for dealing with the threat of violence. Like any tool, the more we know about it, the more informed we are to make a decision and use it.

Topics covered include:

  • Situational awareness
  • Self-protection outside of the home
  • Disengagement strategies
  • Techniques against common holds & strikes

Please register for this class by Monday, May 14th at the Front Desk. 10 sign-ups are required in order to run this class.
