Written and directed by Alex Garland (who also wrote and directed Annihilation [2018]), Ex Machina (2014) follows the misadventures of Caleb (Domhnall Gleeson), a young programmer in a mega-internet company, who wins a competition; the prize is to spend a gizmo-filled week at the private resort of the company’s CEO, the pathologically reclusive Nathan (Oscar Isaac). What Nathan really wants is for Caleb to complete the education of his latest robot, a very beautiful artificially intelligent gynoid by the name of Ava (Alicia Vikander). Of course, things do not turn out as neatly as planned and, as with A.I. stories in general, stuff happens. Come and join us for dystopian high jinx of epic proportions, or something like that.

Enjoy complimentary appetizers and wine during the film, as well as post-film discussion with film buff, Jim Clauss.
