Dear Seattle Athletic Club Members,
 
With the extension of the “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order by Governor Jay Inslee last week, the Club will, unfortunately, remain closed until further notice.
 
On behalf of everyone here at the Seattle Athletic Club, we want you to know that you, your families, and our community are constantly in our thoughts. Our collective heart breaks when we reflect upon to impact this crisis is having on each of you. We fully support any initiative designed to protect the health and the wellbeing of our community, yet we were all deeply saddened to learn that we would not be able to re-open our doors as soon as we had hoped.
 
With that said, we are prepared to welcome you back into the Club as soon as we are able. Over the past few weeks, our team has performed all-encompassing deep-clean and sanitization of the entire facility.  In addition, we have been working tirelessly to add numerous protective measures to provide the safest possible environment for our members to return to. In total, our “Member Shield” measures totaled over a hundred new initiatives.
 
For your reference, below is a small sampling of these initiatives you will see once we are able to re-open our doors:
  • Temperature testing for all staff and members upon entry
  • Hydrostatic spraying of our equipment routinely throughout the day
  • Appropriate distancing of equipment throughout the Club to ensure proper social distancing. (see pictures attached)
  • Online pre-booking of all our Group Exercise classes to ensure we can manage capacity and meet appropriate spacing requirements.
  • Mandatory entry/exit check-in to ensure an accurate headcount at any given time which will also enable us to perform contact tracing through our Property Management System, if needed.
  • Entryway cleaning stations that will be mandatory for all visitors to sanitize hands upon entry and exit.
  • Senior/”at-risk population” specific hours
  • Added sanitization dispensers, wipes and cleaning stations throughout the Club.
  • Removal of any shared equipment that is not easily sanitized such as yoga mats and straps.
 
Then there will be the more obvious, but just as effective measures, such as mandatory mask wearing for staff, compulsory equipment cleaning “buffer” between clients, mandatory handwashing for all staff, and much much more. We will constantly be evolving and re-evaluating our protocols as we learn about the requirements and recommendations from the state and CDC, but we believe that this outline provides us with a rock-solid foundation to be able to protect our Club environment.

In addition, we are looking to incorporate extra member services in the next few weeks, including:
  • Permanent live streaming infrastructure in our Group Exercise rooms
  • Additional virtual class spaces within the Club through Fitness on Demand
  • Access to the Fitness on Demand content anywhere within the Club so you can take your class to any corner of the Club.
 
In the interim, we hope that you have been able to take advantage of our growing library of online health and fitness resources. Our YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram pages have swelled in content and we are planning on developing the resources further. Finally, we have also had a lot of inquiries about how the Clubs are withstanding this crisis. To speak frankly, as a small business, make no mistake that this will be an incredibly tough time period.  The strength of our Club has always been based within its connection to our SAC community and we deeply appreciate your continued support as we try to weather this storm.
 
Please ensure you continue to take the time to prioritize your overall health and wellbeing. Juggling social isolation, family needs, school closures, and economic stressors can be overwhelming and disorientating. Along with the obvious physical benefits, health and fitness have always been a powerful tool to help manage mental and emotional prosperity.
 
Be kind and compassionate to yourself and remember you are not alone. We are here to help in whatever capacity we can and look forward to welcoming you back to the Club soon.
