Secrets to Successful Group Exercise Participation
Group exercise can be a transformative experience, offering energy, motivation, and connection. Follow these tips to make the most of every class and set yourself up for success on your fitness journey:
- Select a class that sounds exciting and motivating to you.
- Introduce yourself to the instructor before class.
- Let the instructor know you are new to class and inform them of any injuries you might have or modifications you might need.
- Attend a new class more than one time before deciding if it is a good fit for you. The more you take a class, the more comfortable you become. Once you understand what the class is about and you are able to execute the moves properly and safely you will get a better all-around workout.
- For proper recovery, make sure to give your body a day of rest in between the same class style. Our schedule is designed to give you options between cardio-style classes and weight bearing classes every day of the week.
- Wear proper shoes such as cross trainers, which tend to give the best support for lateral movement while providing stability.
- Wear proper attire that is comfortable and allows your body to move and breathe.
- Drink plenty of water before, during, and after class.
- Listen to your body.
- Most importantly, have fun!
At Seattle Athletic Club, we’re here to support your individual journey with a wide variety of classes, expert instructors, and a welcoming environment. Whether you’re just beginning or an experienced enthusiast, group exercise can be a powerful tool for reaching your goals.

Sharrón Hasu
Group Fitness Director
About Sharrón
For more than 30 years, fitness has been Sharrón’s way of connecting with people, building community, and helping others discover just how strong they really are—often stronger than they think, especially before the warm-up.
More about Sharrón
Her journey began with dance, choreography, cheerleading, cycling, and competitive athletics as a member of the Nike and Avia Aerobic Teams. After attending San Diego State University and interning at San Diego Sports Medicine, she built a rewarding career as a Certified Personal Fitness Trainer, Group Fitness Director, instructor, and mentor—including 17 meaningful years at Seattle Athletic Club.
She believes great fitness programs are about much more than exercise—and definitely more than burpees. They create welcoming spaces where people feel supported, inspired, and connected. Whether encouraging someone through their very first class or celebrating a life-changing achievement, her greatest joy comes from meeting people wherever they are in their journey.
Outside of fitness, her favorite place to be is with her family. She is a wife, a mom of five, and a proud cat mom to Jake, Greywulf, and Clyde—three wonderfully different personalities who generously allow her to live in their home. Jake even became a bit of a COVID-era internet sensation, although fame has not inspired him to contribute toward the household expenses!
She is also passionate about domestic violence prevention advocacy and believes deeply in the power of compassion and community.
